Marcel Witzig appointed CEO of Swiss AviationTraining

Zurich Airport, 29 April 2014 – Marcel Witzig (45), our current Head of Ground Services, has been appointed as the new CEO of our Swiss AviationTraining (SAT) subsidiary. He will assume his new duties on 19 May.  Marcel Witzig succeeds Manfred Brennwald, who decided last summer to step down after seven years at the SAT helm.

“We offer Manfred Brennwald our sincere thanks for all his work and commitment and his outstanding achievements for SAT and SWISS over the past few years”, says Roland Busch, SWISS CFO and Chairman of the Swiss AviationTraining Board of Director. At his own request, Manfred, who is 60, will continue to serve SAT as a flying instructor.

“In Marcel Witzig we have appointed an experienced airline professional to succeed”, says Roland Busch. Marcel Witzig began his career as an air transport apprentice with the then Swissair back in 1986. He went on to hold various functions within the Swissair Group, particularly in ground services, including Head of Aircraft Handling Zurich.

Marcel Witzig has been in charge of our own Ground Services organization since SWISS’s foundation in 2002. He played a vital part in the company’s subsequent restructuring, and has also been instrumental in further developing the Ground Services unit, not least by establishing and refining a global quality management and outsourced supplier management system.

Marcel Witzig holds a Diploma in Business Administration and a Master of Arts degree in Practising Management from the University of Lancaster in the UK.

Until his successor is appointed and assumes office, SWISS Ground Services unit will be led by Marcel Witzig’s deputy, Stephan Ellenberger.

Swiss AviationTraining (SAT) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Swiss International Air Lines, with bases in Zurich, Grenchen, Frankfurt and Munich.
